Automotive TPMS Service

Maintaining proper air pressure in your tires can help them last longer, support better braking and vehicle handling and boost fuel efficiency. A tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is an alert mechanism that indicates when one or more of your tires is underinflated. It automatically checks air pressure to maintain proper inflation and prevent tire-related accidents.

Bauer Built offers TPMS maintenance and recalibration services to ensure your system provides accurate air pressure readings and maintains long-term operation. We can also replace TPMS sensors when you purchase new tires so you can avoid separate mount and dismount fees from a separate installation.

How TPMS Works

The TREAD Act requires vehicles made after 2006 to be equipped with a TPMS. The monitoring system uses sensors attached to each tire’s valve stem to continuously check air pressure. If the sensors detect a drop in air pressure, they transmit that data to your vehicle’s TPMS system, triggering a warning light on your dashboard that looks like a horseshoe with an exclamation point inside it.

What’s Included in Bauer Built’s TPMS Service

TPMS Inspection

Our tire technicians verify the TPMS warning light on your dashboard during the inspection. They use diagnostic equipment to ensure the sensors are communicating with your vehicle’s onboard computer properly. We also check the valve stems to determine if the sensors sustained physical damage.

Sensor Programming

A TPMS scan tool allows us to program and recalibrate your vehicle’s pressure monitoring sensors. If you have new TPMS sensors, we will program them to match your vehicle’s system requirements and synchronize them with your onboard computer.

Diagnostic Testing

We scan for error codes and proper signaling during diagnostic testing to ensure the sensors are functioning properly. Doing so allows us to determine if any external or internal factors are interfering with the monitoring process.

System Resets

Your manufacturer’s manual should include specific instructions for resetting your TPMS. Our tire technicians can usually walk you through the manual reset process by pressing a button or completing a sequence through your vehicle’s computer menu.

FAQs

  • False alerts
  • Inaccurate air pressure readings
  • Vehicle handling issues
  • Recalibration issues
  • Sensor malfunctions
TPMS sensors typically last for five to seven years, depending on the age and integrity of your tire. You can have your TPMS sensors checked during routine tire rotations based on manufacturer specifications.
Depending on the TPMS sensor age and condition, it’s usually accurate within one to two PSIs.
You should have your TPMS sensors calibrated after:
  • Sensor replacement
  • Tire rotation or replacement
  • Tire repairs
Sensor inspection, diagnosis and recalibration may take 30 to 60 minutes. Replacing TPMS sensors can require a few hours to complete.
