Your Road Trip Bucket List for July 4th!
Summer means family trips, getaways and, of course, Independence Day celebrations. Many of us pack a cooler to hit the road and meet family and friends for the holiday. We reviewed multiple travel authorities to compile the top five U.S. destinations to visit for spectacular Fourth of July celebrations. Take your pick—and don’t forget to make sure your tires are ready for the journey.
The Best of the Best
- New York – Step aside Thanksgiving, the 41st Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show boasts the biggest display in the U.S. The fireworks last 25 minutes, making the spectacular show well worth the drive.
- Washington, D.C. – The most patriotic way to celebrate Independence Day is in the nation’s capital. This breathtaking scene at the National Mall Fourth of July Celebration is sure to create lifetime memories.
- San Diego —The Big Bay Boom is the largest display of fireworks on the West Coast. Four different barges launch fireworks over the bay.
- Philadelphia — As the birthplace of the U.S., Philadelphia provides another nostalgic location for one of the nation’s greatest fireworks shows. This year’s Wawa Welcome America celebration features Mary. J. Blige.
- San Francisco — Take in this scenic July Fourth Fireworks show with the Golden Gate Bridge as the backdrop. Fireworks are launched from a barge in front of Pier 39 and on the end of Municipal Pier.
Safety First
Whether you’re headed to a backyard barbecue across town or hitting the road to witness spectacular pyrotechnics across the country, warmer temperatures can weaken a tire. Though it’s easy to overlook a simple tire check before starting the engine, we’re here to remind you how it important it is. These tips from The Department of Transportation can help you prepare for vacation season:
- Check tires regularly for visible signs of wear, damage, bulges, or tread separation.
- Check tire pressure. Tire pressure can fluctuate and increase when the temperature rises.
- Check the load. Be aware of limits and don’t overpack. A car and tires are designed to operate safely only up to a certain weight.
- Check tire tread. To operate safely, tire grooves should be visible and deep enough to touch the top of Lincoln’s head on a penny inserted head first.
Tire care is especially critical in warm weather because of long trips, heavy loads, higher speeds and higher temperatures, which all place additional stress on tires. We want to make sure your tires are ready for the open road. Read our blog for more tips for your summer road trip.
