Why Are Oil Changes Important?

Oil reduces the friction between all the moving parts of your car’s engine and filters particles that come from the combustion process. Your engine also gets hot during operation, and oil works as a cooling agent to reduce long-term wear. Old motor oil isn’t as effective and can cause friction that leads to damage over time.

Maintaining a regular oil and lubrication service schedule can also:

Maintain warranty coverage (depending on the manufacturer)

Our Services

During your service appointment, we’ll replace and replenish oil and lubricants. Our technicians also exchange air, oil, cabin and fuel filters if needed.

Power Steering Fluid

This hydraulic fluid helps regulate your power steering, so you don’t have to strain to turn your vehicle. It also lubricates your steering gear and prevents heat buildup. Metal shavings and moisture can contaminate power steering fluid, so get it changed every 50,000 miles.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid transfers the force from your brake pedal to your wheels to slow or stop rotation. It also prevents corrosion. It’s important to replace your brake fluid every few years to enhance handling performance and reduce the risk of brake failure.

Differential Fluid

Also known as gear oil, this fluid lubricates the gears and other moving parts inside your vehicle’s differential, allowing your wheels to rotate at different speeds. Have differential fluid replaced every 30,000 miles to prevent overheating and contamination buildup.

Coolant

Coolant or antifreeze absorbs and dissipates heat through the radiator in your engine to reduce the risk of overheating in extreme temperatures. Dirt and debris can decrease coolant efficiency, increasing the risk of engine damage. Get your coolant replaced every 30,000 miles.

Washer Fluid

You need washer fluid to keep your windshield clear of dirt, grime and bugs, and doesn’t freeze in cold temperatures. You should receive a dashboard notification if this fluid is low, so refill it as needed. Request a top-off when you come to Bauer Built for service.

Semi-Synthetic Oil Change

Motor oil lubricates the moving parts of your engine and keeps it cool during operation. Semi-synthetic or synthetic blend motor oil provides superior low-temperature properties and withstands oxidation because it combines a mixture of conventional and synthetic-based oils.

Full Synthetic Oil Change

Synthetic motor oil performs well at extremely low and high temperatures. It contains better properties and fewer impurities than conventional oil because the formulation has better-performing additives.

FAQs

As a rule of thumb, you should schedule an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. However, that varies depending on the type of oil you use, driving conditions, vehicle weight and manufacturer recommendations.
Conventional: This type of oil is best for older engines and light-duty vehicles.
Synthetic blend: The mix of conventional and synthetic oils offers better engine performance and protection.
Synthetic: This oil is best for modern engines and vehicles that operate in extreme conditions.
High mileage: Your vehicle may require high mileage oil if it has more than 75,000 miles on it to prevent excess wear and oil consumption.
A standard oil change takes about 30 minutes.
Driving a vehicle that’s low on oil can result in increased friction and excess wear on valves, bearings and pistons. Oil breaks down over time, causing clogs, poor circulation and overheating. If neglected for too long, your engine may seize due to lack of lubrication.
If your vehicle is low on oil, you may notice a warning light on your dashboard or a rise in your temperature gauge. Other symptoms include engine noise, smoke, poor performance and a burning smell. Oil may appear dark or dirty on the dipstick if your oil is old or low.
Your vehicle may consume oil at a higher rate due to worn engine components, poor driving habits, high mileage and leaks. Selecting the incorrect oil type or a low-quality product can also result in increased oil use.
